Amigurumi – Crochet Little Snowman

In this pattern, I’ll show you how to crochet a Little Snowman. As you can see, the small crocheted snowman is a great decoration for winter. However, you can also crochet the Little Snowman as a keychain. If you crochet a snowwoman and a snowman, it’s also a great gift for couples who are getting married in winter or engaged.

Introduction: Amigurumi – Crochet Little Snowman

To successfully crochet the Little Snowman, it is essential to prepare in advance. Therefore, you will find all information about the required prerequisites, materials, and size here. In addition, you will find help through the respective additional links.

Attention! Amigurumis are very cute and, therefore, not only popular among adults. Children often see them as toys, so you should be especially careful. Amigurumis that are not intended for play should be kept out of the reach of children. If an Amigurumi is meant to be played with by children, you should strictly adhere to the guidelines for toys. If you plan to give away or sell Amigurumis (license for sellers), you must strictly adhere to the legal requirements for toys and display the required CE marking.

Prerequisites

The successful implementation of this crochet pattern for the Little Snowman assumes that you are familiar with the following crochet techniques. Here you will also find detailed tutorials to learn the individual techniques.

  • Chain Stitches
  • Circle Rounds
  • Decreases
  • Double Crochet Stitches (UK!)
  • Half Treble Crochet Stitches (UK!)
  • Increases
  • Magic Ring
  • Slip Stitches
  • Spiral Rounds
  • Treble Crochet Stitches (UK!)
  • Turning Chain Stitches

Note! By offsetting regular increases and decreases, they become almost invisible. You can recognize regular increases by the phrase “double every … stitch,” and regular decreases by the phrase “crochet together every … and … stitch”. The stitch chart for spheres and circles might also be helpful for you.

Note! Using a special technique for invisible decreases makes them nearly invisible. Although this technique requires a bit of practice, it’s worth giving it a try.

Supplies

The Little Snowman was made with the materials listed below. The Little Snowman can also be crocheted with a different yarn if a matching crochet hook size is used. If you want to achieve an authentic result, you should use these materials as accurately as possible. In addition to the materials, you will also find all the necessary tools and supplies here.

Beads – 2mm – Black

I used small beads in the shade Black here. The beads have a diameter of about 1/16 inch. If you’ve run out of your small beads, you can find plenty of replacements here.

Crochet Hook

You will need a crochet hook with a size of 12 (british). For converting to other sizes, the crochet hook size converter will help you. I have selected some great crochet hooks for you here.

Filling

For filling, I used synthetic filling made of 100% polyester. However, there are numerous alternatives for filling material. If you’ve run out of filling, I’ve prepared a refill for you here.

Scissors – any

You’ll need any scissors. It’s best to use your most beautiful scissors because it brings you joy. If you don’t have really nice scissors, I’ve picked out some lovely ones for you.

Sewing Needle

You will need a sewing needle with a sharp point. The thickness of the sewing needle should match the thickness of your yarn. You might like the sewing needles set that I have selected for you.

Sewing Thread

Wool Needle

You’ll need a wool needle with a blunt tip. The thickness of the wool needle should match the thickness of your yarn. You might like the set of wool needles I’ve picked out for you.

Yarn – Schachenmayr – Catania – 106 – weiß

I used yarn in the shade White. The material is 100% cotton. The yardage is 137 yds / 1.75 oz. If you want to replenish your supply, I’ve already picked out the matching yarn for you here.

Yarn – Schachenmayr – Catania – 281 – orange

I used yarn in the shade Orange. The material is 100% cotton. The yardage is 137 yds / 1.75 oz. If you want to replenish your supply, I’ve already picked out the matching yarn for you here.

Yarn – Schachenmayr – Catania – 412 – moos (grün)

I used yarn in the shade Moss. The material is 100% cotton. The yardage is 137 yds / 1.75 oz. If you want to replenish your supply, I’ve already picked out the matching yarn for you here.

Yarn – Schachenmayr – Catania – red – 115

I used yarn in the shade Red. The material is 100% cotton. The yardage is 137 yds / 1.75 oz. If you want to replenish your supply, I’ve already picked out the matching yarn for you here.

Note! The specified yarn was used for the example shown here. In principle, you can use any yarn and an appropriate needle size. However, the quality of the material also affects the quality of the result, so you should avoid cutting corners in the wrong place. Also, the thickness of the yarn and the needle will influence the size of the outcome, which you can, of course, intentionally take advantage of.

Size

Here you will find the size specifications for the crocheted Little Snowman. The height was measured standing without a hat. Please note that the actual size depends on the yarn used, the size of the crochet hook, and individual crochet tension.

Needle SizeYardageSize
Crochet Hook 12137 yds / 1.75 oz?
Crochet Hook 11120 yds / 1.75 oz?
Crochet Hook 9 or 1093 yds / 1.75 oz?

Note! If you want to change the size, you can simply use a thicker or thinner yarn with a suitable needle size. Simply doubling the rounds, rows, and stitches, on the other hand, will only result in an uneven outcome.

Crochet Pattern: Amigurumi – Crochet Little Snowman

We will crochet the Little Snowman from head to toe, from top to bottom in spiral rounds. The head and body are crocheted directly together. Afterward, you will crochet the nose, scarf, and hat and assemble all the parts.

Head for Crocheting Snowman (1x)

Amigurumi - Crochet Snowman - free crochet pattern

We will crochet the head of the snowman with white yarn from top to bottom in spiral rounds. Place a marking thread to better recognize the beginning and end of the round. When you finish the head, do not cut the thread; instead, crochet the body directly onto the head.

Note! If you want to achieve a particularly beautiful result, you can hide regular increases and decreases by offsetting them a little. You can recognize regular increases by the phrase “double every … stitch,” and regular decreases by the phrase “crochet together every … and … stitch”. The stitch chart for spheres and circles might also be helpful for you. Additionally, you can apply a special crochet technique here for invisible decreases.

Amigurumi - free pattern - Crochet Snowman

You will crochet the hat for the Little Snowman in circular rounds using half double crochets, similar to a regular beanie with half double crochets. You can check there if you need to adjust the size or are not sure how to crochet it. You can finish the last round in a different color or crochet it in the same color.

Tip: Wenn du ein besonders schönes Ergebnis erhalten möchtest, kannst du die regelmäßigen Zunahmen durch Versetzen ein wenig verstecken. Dazu verwendest du einfach die Maschentabelle für Kugeln und Kreise.

Finish Little Snowman

Now you have already crocheted all the parts for your Little Snowman. Your snowman now needs a nose and eyes. For the hat, you still need a pom-pom. So let’s finish the Little Snowman quickly.

Sew Nose on Snowman

First, we sew the nose onto the head of the snowman. It sits around the 7th round. You can simply count the rounds from the top. Then sew the nose to the head with the opening. You can use the thread end and secure it inside at the end.

Sew Eyes on Snowman

For the eyes, sew two black beads, each about 3mm in size, onto the snowman. The eyes sit to the right and left of the nose on a line in the 7th round. You can use a thin sewing needle and some black sewing thread to sew the beads. Finally, secure the thread ends inside the head.

Dress Snowman

Before you can dress the Little Snowman, you still need a mini pom-pom for the hat. For this, you can simply follow the pattern for making pom-poms.

Now you can put the hat on your crocheted snowman and tie the scarf. Your Little Snowman is now finished.

You can also use it as a keychain, but then sew the hat and scarf to the body.

Done!
